Interview: Farewell to Diane Glover of SuperLo Foods
A few days ago, our magazine staff received an email that caught everyone’s attention. The email was from a Diaz Foods sales representative, Cesar Finol. Cesar was eager to share with us his experience with a very special client, Mrs. Diane Glover who retired by the end of 2020. “Her level of professionalism, capacity for innovation, tenacity when it comes to working through any obstacle, making sure her company was always the best, along with the level of respect she gives everybody, is what I’d say makes her a truly great human being.” Cesar described. He was moved while writing his email because of how rare it is to encounter individuals who make this type of an impression on others. Cesar went on to tell us that the reason he was writing this email was because as he closed up his year, he really felt that his experience with Mrs. Glover had been one that has really impacted his mood for years. He said that he was grateful for the tremendous relationship formed between Diaz Foods and Superlo Foods over the past years.
When we spoke to Diane she opened with, “I’ve worked at Superlo stores for 40 years. Wow, 40 years sounds like a lot, but truly they have gone by fast.” Then moved on to describe her truly terrific experience over that time and how she still was enthusiastic about what each day had in store for her. She remembers how she was hired on the spot after turning in her job application. Starting as a cashier and later becoming an assistant manager. She joyfully told us “I’m truly nothing but grateful to the Steferson family which have always been kind to me, finding ways to be helpful and supportive. Although I’m happy here, it’s time for me to care for my husband and look after my family and maybe travel a little bit together, which are the main reasons I’m retiring”.
In my years with Superlo Foods I’ve seen us grow from only one store to nine. That first store was the original and is still known as Steferson Foods. This is our smallest location, it doesn’t have any more room to grow and that’s what kicked off the need to open that second store back then. Almost all our stores offer a vast variety of latin products, which was a very essential thing for us to do since the start. I’d say that today about 85 percent of our clientele is Hispanic; we have seen the growth of the Latinamerican Community. This has been awesome for me when it comes to the things I’ve learned and even understanding the language quite a bit! I always welcome customers, I say “buenos dias”, “buenas noches” and a few other words in Spanish in between. The customers really enjoy that I interact in their language, they laugh, and that makes me happy. Another thing I love is the children that I’ve gotten to know! Sometimes they run over and give me a big hug and a kiss when they see me, I love it!” She continues to tell us how much she is going to miss this part of her job. But she feels less sad as she reiterates once more how much she’s looking forward to spending family time with her husband.
Diane Glover is truly a delightful spirit to meet and we can imagine that her coworkers are going to lament her absence but cheer on her decision to do what is right for her and her family. She has served 40 wonderful years with Superlo Foods and we are honored to recognize and highlight her work and contribution which affected everyone in the best way.
We, the Sazon staff along with Diaz Foods want to give a big congratulations to Diane as she begins this new adventure and well-deserved retirement.
